Debuting in 2000, Spyker’s radical C8 Spyder was a complete stylistic departure from anything that preceded it. Yet, it skillfully recalled the reborn marque’s heritage in both aircraft and automobile production.

In 2001, Spyker unveiled their C8 Laviolette, which replaced the cloth top of the Spyder with a stunning glass canopy that features an integrated intake vent for the rear-mid-mounted, 4.2-liter Audi V-8 engine. Design elements throughout the model’s interior and exterior pay extensive homage to the company’s origins, most notably its aluminum construction, fuselage-type styling, rear “cannon-port” vents, a prominent wide grille intake, engine-turned dashboard, and aircraft-type switchgear.

With a race-bred, fully independent suspension, and six-speed Getrag gearbox, the Audi-powered C8 Laviolette touted a 186-mph top speed and immediately became a force to be reckoned in the sports car market. Only 55 examples were produced between 2002 and 2009, and arguably the world’s finest specimen of this scarcely seen model is offered here.

This uniquely configured 2008 Laviolette (chassis number 182) is presented in the outstanding bespoke color combination of Black Olive Green over Saddle quilted leather with Dark Green contrast stitching and is further highly specified with desirable options including a factory sound system, quad dashboard vents, a cast oil-filler cap, stainless steel engine covers, “whisper” exhaust module, and an engine-turned aluminum dashboard panel. It is the only Spyker ever made in this color combination, and its stellar, attention-grabbing appeal was proclaimed firsthand by Spyker themselves when they exhibited this specific Laviolette at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

Following its show-stopping debut, this incredible Laviolette was retailed by Beerens Spyker of Antwerp and thusly sold into a private collection, whose caretaker added only 60 kilometers (~37 miles) to its odometer!

By 2020, the car was found by Spyker marque savant Jasper den Dopper and purchased by an American Spyker enthusiast. Den Dopper was then enlisted to complete a comprehensive maintenance regimen prior to its export from the Netherlands, and at that time, this special Laviolette had travelled fewer than 72 kilometers (~45 miles) since new!

Alongside his invoices for the work completed, a supplementary report from den Dopper (on file) proudly proclaims, “This is the cleanest and lowest mileage Spyker C8 Laviolette in the world.” This Laviolette was also upgraded with den Dopper’s signature handcrafted and leather-wrapped propeller steering wheel design with leather that was sourced from Spyker’s original OEM upholsterer.

Following the consignor’s purchase, this “reference-grade” Laviolette was exhibited at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles between 2021 and 2022. The car’s sale is accompanied by two pieces of Spyker luggage, as well as its original steering wheel and steering column components. At the time of cataloguing, its odometer displays fewer than 125 kilometers (~78 miles).

Perhaps more desirable today than it ever has been, this Spyker offers an old-school supercar driving experience with space-age aesthetics. The Spyker C8 Laviolette is truly a fascinating and rarely seen model; its striking design, aluminum construction, and engaging driving experience make it one of the most sought-after sports cars of the early 2000s.

With unique specifications, scant mileage, Geneva Motor Show provenance, a very short chain of known owners, and servicing completed by the marque’s sole authority—this Laviolette is absolutely the Spyker to have.
