One of the most desirable collector automobiles of all time, the unforgettable Jaguar E-Type was a revelation when introduced for 1961. Though it followed a proven Jaguar formula—affordable performance in an instantly appealing package—that dated back to the XK 120 of 1949, it was a dramatic visual departure from the XK 150 it succeeded. In place of the voluptuous curves of the former car, the E-Type was sleek and new, presenting to the world the best that Coventry had to offer. Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful automobiles ever designed, fine E-Type examples have always been sought-after. This particular example, Chassis No. 1E 13415, is certainly no exception.

According to the accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, this enticing Series 1 E-Type was completed at the Coventry factory on 23 August 1966, and originally wore Opalescent Dark Green paint with a Suede Green Interior. It was then dispatched to Jaguar Cars New York on 31 August 1966. Though the original dealer is not recorded, the car’s first owner is recorded as Mr. Frank Spivey, and is said to have passed through just three owners. Further, the car is believed to have only covered 39,000 miles since new.

In 2005, chassis number 1E 13415 received a comprehensive restoration by noted Jaguar specialist Lloyd Gillespie of Jacksonville, Florida. Utilizing genuine Jaguar parts wherever possible, the E-Type was treated to a rotisserie refurbishment of the bodywork, during which time the color combination was changed to the charming Opalescent Maroon over a Biscuit interior. A few select modern enhancements were made to increase reliability, including installation of maintenance-free electronic ignition, additional cooling fans, a stainless steel exhaust system, new wiring harness, and upgraded suspension. At this time, the original engine was also rebuilt. In 2014 the Jaguar benefitted from another mechanical freshening by the specialists at Predator Performance in Tampa, Florida.

In very fine condition throughout, the E-Type's brightwork and paint has a brilliant shine, and the supple interior leather reflects a wonderful, lightly used look commensurate with the careful use this Jaguar has seen since its restoration. This superb E-Type retains its original, numbers-matching engine block and cylinder head, as confirmed by the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate accompanying the car. Furthermore, a tool set and owner's manuals, as well as a file documenting the car's restoration and service work accompany the sale.
