Addendum: Please note that this car’s CARFAX report indicates that it was involved in an accident in 2015 in which the air bags did not deploy, and minor damage occurred.

The fifth generation of BMW’s groundbreaking M5 sport sedan, chassis code F10, produced from 2012 through 2016, introduced several technological firsts for the line: It was the first M5 to feature a turbocharged engine and the first to offer a dual-clutch, automated manual transmission.

A new, high-revving, 4.4-liter V-8 engine employed a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers to help produce 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque—10 percent and 30 percent more output, respectively, than the preceding M5’s V-10 engine. With maximum torque available at a very low 1,500 rpm and peak horsepower persisting until a lofty 7,000 rpm, this S63T engine had monstrous, lag-free pulling power almost anywhere in the rev range. A seven-speed, dual-clutch, automated manual gearbox was the only transmission offered in most markets, capable of silky-smooth gear changes in automatic mode or dispatching lightning-quick shifts in manual mode with the flick of steering-wheel-mounted paddles. Reversing its tendency to reserve the most enthusiast-oriented specifications for the European market, BMW for once favored the United States with a six-speed manual transmission as an alternative to the dual-clutch setup.

The example offered here, equipped with the manual six-speed and highly desirable Competition Package, was sold new at BMW of Mountain View in California. It appears to have remained in the Golden State for the next couple of years before being sold at auction and subsequently acquired in 2017 by the current Kuwait-based owner, who had it imported to Switzerland. The car came from the factory impressively finished in Frozen Black Metallic, a custom paint option ordered through BMW’s exclusive Individual program. This M5 is currently cloaked in a matte-black wrap, which offers a unique look while protecting the factory paint and can easily be removed if desired. High Gloss Shadow Line trim and optional 20-inch black BMW M Double Spoke wheels wearing Pirelli P-Zero tires complete the handsome and purposeful exterior. Complementing the driver-focused manual six-speed transmission is the highly sought-after Competition Package, a $7,300 factory option that boosts output by 15 horsepower and retunes the suspension, steering, and active rear differential for even sportier response.

Contrasting beautifully with the dark exterior is the bright Silverstone Merino Leather interior, where luxury amenities abound. The long list of factory features includes climate-controlled heated and ventilated front seats with active adjustment to aid stability when cornering, four-zone automatic climate control, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system, DVD changer, rear sunshades, head-up display, navigation system, electric sunroof, electronic damper control, adaptive LED headlights, park distance control with surround view, alarm system, soft-close automatic doors, automatic trunk-lid mechanism, and more.

Showing less than 27,000 miles on the odometer at cataloguing time, this low-mileage, highly specified M5 is a driving-enthusiasts dream, equipped with both the manual transmission and Competition Package, making it an excellent choice for anyone seeking supercar performance in a far more accommodating luxury sedan.
