Launched in 2009 and limited to just 250 units, the Sport Classic was a visual homage to great 911s of the past, albeit boasting the most desirable options from the 997.2 catalogue. So popular was this recipe of modern performance combined with retro aesthetics that every build slot for the 250 examples was spoken for in under 48 hours.

This example is number 40 of the 250, and like every Sport Classic, it is instantly recognisable with its iconic ducktail spoiler, inspired by the 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7, Fuchs-style alloy wheels, Zagato-esque concave roof and unique Sport Classic Grey paintwork with a pair of subtle grey stipes. Suffice it to say that it does not take an aficionado to detect that a Sport Classic is not an ordinary 911.

However, it is in less ostensible details where the engineering pedigree of the Sport Classic reveals itself, whether it be the unique combination of the wider Carrera 4S bodyshell with rear-wheel drive or the standard fitment of the 997.2 Sport Chassis pack, Power Pack and carbon ceramic brakes. Even the six-speed manual gearbox received a short-shift kit to produce a more rewarding action.

To enhance the retro credentials further, Porsche also tuned the Sport Classic’s exhaust and intake to evoke aural memories of the 1970s, whilst on the inside Espresso leather was combined with woven grey and brown inserts for the unique seats and door-cards. Even the gear lever, instrument dials and steering wheel were tailored for the car, all in the pursuit of exclusivity and creating the ultimate driver experience.

Having covered just over 6,000 km from new, this example presents in exceptional condition throughout. The 997.2 is already regarded as one of the finest naturally aspirated 911s, and the Sport Classic stands out as one of the best iterations of the class. Already highly collectible, it would make for an extremely fine addition to any collection.

Questo esemplare è il numero 40 dei 250 prodotti e, come ogni Sport Classic, è immediatamente riconoscibile grazie al suo iconico spoiler a coda d’anatra, ispirato alla 911 Carrera RS 2.7 del 1973, ai cerchi in lega Fuchs, al tetto concavo in stile Zagato e all'esclusiva verniciatura in Sport Classic Grey arricchita da un paio di sottili strisce grigie. Basti solo dire che non ci vuole un esperto per capire che una Sport Classic non è una normale 911.

Tuttavia, è nei dettagli meno appariscenti quelli in cui si rivela il pedigree di ingegneria della Sport Classic, sia che si tratti della combinazione unica della carrozzeria allargata della Carrera 4S con la trazione posteriore sia dello Sport Chassis pack, del Power Pack e dei freni carboceramici, tutte dotazioni di serie sulla 997.2. Anche il cambio manuale a sei marce è stato modificato, e reso con un’escursione più breve, per permettere un'azione più gratificante.

Per migliorare ulteriormente lo spirito retrò, Porsche ha anche sviluppato lo scarico e l'aspirazione della Sport Classic per evocare i ricordi sonori degli anni '70, mentre, all'interno, la pelle Express è stata abbinata a inserti in tessuto grigio e marrone per i sedili ed i pannelli porta. Anche la leva del cambio, i quadranti degli strumenti ed il volante sono stati rivisti per questo modello, all'insegna dell'esclusività e per permettere una migliore esperienza di guida.

Con poco più di 6.000 km percorsi da nuova, questo esemplare si presenta in condizioni eccezionali. La 997.2 è già considerata una delle 911 aspirate più belle e, la Sport Classic, si distingue già come una dei migliori esempi tra questo tipo di vettura. Già altamente collezionabile, sarebbe, in qualsiasi raccolta, un'aggiunta estremamente raffinata.
