Few initials have generated as many smiles in the automotive world as “MG.” Originally standing for Morris Garages, where Cecil Kimber turned ordinary Morris cars into high-performance machines, the two letters have since become almost synonymous with the term "sports car."
The first of the T-type MGs, the TA, arrived in 1936 and set the style for the next 20 years with its signature deep-cutout doors and rear-mounted, slab-shaped petrol tank. The shorter-stroke but more powerful 1.3-liter XPAG-prefix four-cylinder engine debuted in 1939. MG made its post-war return at the 1945 London Motor Show with the new TC, which, though wider and heavier than the TB, sold in droves and solidified the brand's reputation in the United States as a sports car for the masses.
Offered for the first time in over 34 years, this lovely TC is documented in the MG Car Club’s T Register as having been completed on 29 November 1949 and finished in blue over blue trim. With its ultra-late chassis number, 10238 out of 10251, this car is the thirteenth from the last MG TC produced and certainly one of the latest examples still in existence. Wearing a charming older restoration in red over beige, it rides on painted wire wheels with chrome MG-branded “dog ear” knock-off spinners and features desirable accessories such as a full-sized, rear-mounted spare wheel, a polished luggage rack, and a Brooklands four-spoke banjo-style steering wheel. Notably, chassis 10238 retains its numbers-matching XPAG four-cylinder engine with dual-SU carburetors. It is mated to a four-speed manual gearbox.
The quintessential British roadster, the MG TC has gained an international following for its timeless style and enjoyable driving experience, promising its next owner many miles of delightful motoring.
