As the plaque below the passenger-side air vent of this car celebrates, Ferrari was crowned the Formula 1 Constructors’ World Champion in 2008. While the historied team has yet to repeat the feat, it remains the most successful participant in topflight history thanks to an astonishing tally of 16 titles. That figure inspired the name of the convertible counterpart to Ferrari’s track-focused 430 Scuderia.
The Spider 16M featured the same higher-compression, naturally aspirated 4.3-litre V-8 as the closed-roof Scuderia coupé. This delivered 510 horsepower to the rear wheels via the F1-SuperFast2 six-speed transmission. Compared to the standard F430, the car also gained revised front and rear bumpers as part of a weight-saving programme that shed 80 kilograms to bring the 0 to 100 km/h time down to 3.7 seconds, while the top speed was 315 km/h.
Ferrari limited production of the Scuderia Spider 16M to just 499 units. This 2009 example was finished in Nero Daytona and specified with the racing livery-style centre stripe, which is presented in two-tone Nero and Argento. Alongside black fabric for the electric folding soft-top roof, the exterior is completed by forged 19-inch Satin Grey wheels that help to conceal carbon ceramic brakes fitted with Giallo-coloured callipers. As for the pared-back cabin, it continues the dark theme. The seats are upholstered in Nero Alcantara with matching stitching, while the trim is gloss carbon fibre. The extensive use of composites extends to the Alcantara and carbon fibre steering wheel, which houses a sequence of F1-derived LED lights indicating when to change gear. Similarly, the engine bay for the howling V-8 is decorated in gloss carbon fibre. One creature comfort, however, is the JBL sound system.
Previously having resided in Germany, this car is currently located in the United Arab Emirates and is perhaps most notable for its incredibly low use, with the special white (rather than the more typical Ferrari yellow) odometer recorded at just 357 kilometres from new at the time of cataloguing. The 16M is also accompanied by its Ferrari folio and owner’s guides.
Given just how sparingly this limited-edition example has been driven, it is sure to appeal to supercar collections and marque enthusiasts alike.
