The Model T was significantly restyled for 1911 with a new radiator, fenders, and wheels. The all-wood body gave way to steel panels over a wood frame, and a new standard color of dark blue color was introduced. Mechanically, both front and rear axles were redesigned while a mid-year update saw the previously exposed valves of the inline four-cylinder engine covered by a valve chamber cast into the block with doors allowing access for adjustments.

Notably, two new body styles entered the portfolio: the Open Runabout and Torpedo Runabout. These differed quite a bit from the others thanks to curved fenders, a longer hood, and lower seating for a sporty look. As the name implies, the Open Runabout lacked doors while the Torpedo had two. For 1912, the Open Runabout was discontinued and the Torpedo Runabout shared some of its bodywork with the standard Runabout, including the hood and front fenders. Thanks to their lightweight coachwork, these two models offered a higher level of performance and speed, making them quite desirable to enthusiasts.

This well-presented 1912 Ford Model T Runabout is finished in standard dark blue and duly exhibits an assortment of polished brass components befitting the era, including the radiator shell, lamps, windshield frame, and horn. The spartan cabin is nicely upholstered with diamond-tufted leather and comfortable cushioning, while the glossy wood dashboard is furnished with a Stewart 60-mph speedometer. Affirming the quality of this Brass Era runabout, a 1988 Antique Automobile Club of America Senior National First Prize medallion is proudly affixed to the firewall.

Although the Torpedo Runabout was only outsold by the Touring body style in 1912 , nice examples like the one offered here are hard to come by, making it a wonderful opportunity for Ford enthusiasts and automotive history buffs looking to enhance their collection with an award-winning American icon.
