Mercury entered 1957 with an entirely new look. For the first time, the division featured its own exclusive body designs rather than sharing them with Ford or Lincoln. The redesign introduced a bold concave vertical-bar grille, a front-hinged hood, sculpted rear fenders and decklid, distinctive V-shaped taillights, and functional cowl intakes. A chrome "M" emblem positioned between the grille and bumper provided a subtle finishing touch to the striking front fascia. Early-production cars were fitted with dual headlamps, while later examples adopted the newly fashionable quad-headlamp arrangement.

The Monterey Convertible offered here is a later-production example distinguished by its desirable quad-headlamp front end. Powered by Mercury's 312-cubic-inch Y-block V-8, fitted with a four-barrel carburetor and factory-rated at 255 horsepower, it delivers the smooth, effortless performance that made it one of the most capable full-size American convertibles of its day. The Monterey was refinished in a vibrant shade reminiscent of Mercury’s Moonmist Yellow—a hue that beautifully accentuates the sweeping body lines and abundant brightwork.
