Released in 1971, the third-generation Mercedes-Benz SL, chassis code R107, has endured as a status symbol for over 40 years. Richly featured, impeccably well-built, and powerful, it further developed the luxury tourer concept atop the foundations laid by the previous W113 chassis. Produced over nearly 20 model years, the R107 starred in films and competed in endurance rallies in some of the harshest environments the planet has to offer. This duality further cemented Mercedes-Benz’s status as one of the foremost manufacturers of wonderfully engineered automobiles. Beloved by millions, the third generation of the SL roadster stands as one of the true greats.

This wonderful example of the Mercedes-Benz 560 SL was delivered new to Delaware, as shown in the original warranty book on file, and would remain in the region for the next 30 years. It left the factory finished in Midnight Blue over gray leather with a dark blue fabric soft-top, a combination it still sports to this day.

It presents in very fine condition, no doubt a reflection of the diligent care shown by its owners. At the time of cataloguing, its odometer indicated less than 26,000 miles driven. A selection of invoices on file confirms the car received a new soft-top, front shock absorbers, steering links, and exhaust hangers in July 2023. Other minor work completed in January 2023 included an oil change and installing a new steering shock damper. Besides the service invoices, the car is accompanied by a window sticker, owner's books, and a matching hardtop.

A wonderful example of the timeless R107 Mercedes-Benz, this 560 SL is an appealing display of the Stuttgart firm’s finest virtues: exceptional build quality, a robust powertrain, and effortless style.
