The Ferrari 550 Maranello captured the vaunted traditional configuration of a two-seat, front-engine V-12 coupe while incorporating the latest modern technology, much to the acclaim of both historically minded tifosi and dedicated enthusiasts worldwide. In fact, Motor Trend described the model as the company’s “boldest move in a quarter century…quieter, more refined, more comfortable, and more pleasant to be in than its predecessor, yet also more nimble and more faithful in its at-the-limit handling.” The gentleman who gave their writer a test drive, one Niki Lauda, commented that “this is the first modern Ferrari, and the first I would really want to own.”

And no wonder: It offered world-beating performance, with a 5.5-liter engine producing 478 horsepower delivered through a six-speed transmission, sufficient for zero to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 199 mph, wrapped in evocative Pininfarina styling that borrowed cues from the designer’s greatest hits on Ferrari chassis over the last half-century. Today it is widely recognized as being one of the most impressive, best-engineered, and pleasurable sports coupes of its era, and with its six-speed gated manual gearbox, it offers a driving experience unlike anything currently offered by the marque.

Delivered new to Italy in February 1999 via Rossocorsa, the official Ferrari dealer of Milan, this 550 Maranello is further elevated by its striking color combination of Blu NART over a Beige interior, as well as a known history and low mileage. Out of approximately 3,000 examples built of the 550 Maranello, less than 50 were ordered from new in this elegant color combination. Accompanying documentation traces the Ferrari from its initial order stage to its delivery and registration. It also includes service records, including a major service by its delivering dealer in October 2025 that included replacement of belts, filters, hoses, and fuel pumps, as well as restoration of interior surfaces to address the common “sticky button” issue.

In January 2026, the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche; as one would expect given its limited use, it retains its numbers-matching engine and gearbox and correct mechanical components. A month later, it was exhibited at the 2026 Palm Beach Cavallino Classic where—still wearing its Italian plates—it received a Platinum Award, further confirming its excellent overall presentation. It is offered today with a history file, its Classiche Red Book, a luggage set, tools, and manuals.

With its single ownership, low mileage, attractive colors, and documented history from new, this Classiche-certified, Platinum Award-winning 550 Maranello is a compelling example of an instantly recognizable modern Ferrari—a car to thrill its driver, even if they are not Niki Lauda.
