The Carrera RS is among the most coveted variants of the type 964 Porsche 911, prized for its motorsport pedigree. Essentially a road-legal version of the contemporary Carrera Cup racecar, it is 287 pounds lighter, more powerful, and features a tauter suspension than a standard type 964 Carrera Coupe.
The German-market example offered here is one of 1,987 produced for the 1992 model year, according to the book 964 Carrera RS, and one of only 235 finished from the factory in Rubystone Red, a unique shade of magenta that is more than twice as rare as the more traditional Guards Red on the 1992 model. Complementing the vibrant exterior are the Carrera RS’s unique color-block seat centers in factory-correct Violet, Rubystone Red, and Fraise.
The car completed production on 2 April 1992 and was dispatched to Porsche Zentrum Bonn in Germany, where it sold on April 10 to its first owner, a resident of Bonn. German registration documents in the car’s history file indicate that the Carrera RS passed to its second owner, a resident of cologne, in July 1993. He would retain the car for about a decade, after which it would relocate to the Netherlands in the early 2000s. By 2004, the Carrera RS was in the ownership of a longtime Porsche enthusiast and Dutch Porsche club founder in Utrecht. Invoices on file confirm that he had an alarm system and factory-style Porsche strut tower brace professionally installed and paint protection applied by a Porsche specialist. This specialist also performed routine service and other repairs during his ownership. Around early 2010, the car passed to its next owner, a noted Porsche collector and prominent figure in the Dutch art scene. She would enjoy the car for seven years, continuing its regular maintenance with Porsche specialists, including a major service by Porsche Center Leusden in March 2017.
In April 2017, the consignor acquired the car through Carrera RS specialist German Sports Cars GmbH in Telgte, which facilitated its servicing at Porsche Zentrum Münster and the installation of new tires before it was imported to the United States in May 2017. Since joining the consignor’s noted Northeast Porsche collection, the Carrera RS has been well preserved and driven minimally, showing 36,068 kilometers (~22,412 miles) at cataloguing time. Now offered with factory books, tools, and history file, this coveted German-market Porsche 911 with numbers-matching engine is an excellent example of the rare and highly sought-after type 964 Carrera RS, finished in a notable factory-correct color scheme and benefitting from a documented chain of conscientious owners.
