Whilst the vast majority of Ford GTs were sold to eager clients in the U.S., only a small percentage of cars were sold abroad, with this example finding its first home north of the border. Completed on September 13, 2006, this particular Ford GT was finished in the highly sought after color of Tungsten and was outfitted with two of the four available options: red painted brake calipers and BBS wheels. With Tungsten only being available for the 2006 model year, only twenty-five cars were finished in Tungsten and optioned in ‘stripe delete’ configuration, without side stripes or racing stripes. These ‘stripe delete’ cars are considered to be some of the most desirable GTs by collectors today.
Immediately following completion, the car was shipped to Kentwood Ford Sales of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Remaining in Alberta until 2020, the car was then sold to Quebec where it remained for the following six years. During its time in Canada, the present ‘Ford GT’ side stripes were fitted to the car. Acquired by the current owner earlier this year, the Ford GT is showing just 1,975 miles from new at the time of cataloging, having now been imported to the United States.
Marketed by Ford when new as “the pace car for an entire company”, the GT40 proved that on its 100th birthday, Ford was more than capable of building a world-beating supercar. Not only was the Ford GT producing better performance figures than Ferrari’s 360 Challenge Stradale, Porsche’s 996-generation 911 Turbo S, and Lamborghini’s Gallardo in period comparison tests, it was cheaper to buy and could be serviced at your local Ford dealer. Twenty years later, the Ford GT can still keep up with the supercars of today and is truly a worthy homage to the GT40 that inspired it. This low mileage example presented in a stunning specification would be a thrilling addition to any collection.
