AUCTION HOUSE SEES STRONG RESULTS WITH A LIFETIME OF PORSCHE MEMORABILIA, PART I AT $161,994

Online Only: A Lifetime of Porsche Memorabilia, Part I auction generated $161,994 in total sales, with bidders participating from no less than 22 countries, of which 42 percent represented first-time RM Sotheby’s clientele. Offered entirely without reserve, the online auction featured 227 rare and desirable Porsche collectibles, including early factory gifts and promotional items; factory-printed materials; toys and model cars; and motor car parts and accessories.

Taking the top sale slot is a fully restored Porsche 356 Pre-A Banjo Steering Wheel with Original Bakelite-Backed Horn Button, 1948-55, which received a total of 40 bids before selling for a final $4,320, surpassing its pre-sale estimate of $1,750-$2,500. A second steering wheel, the Porsche 356 A Steering Wheel with Original Bakelite-Backed Horn Button, 1956-59, also smashed its pre-sale estimate and brought in $3,120 following a flurry of bids (est. $1/1.5k). Additional standout highlights within the collection include a Distler Electro-Matic 7500 toy with the very rare “PORSCHE” license plate that was only included on the first run of toys produced for the Porsche Factory gift shop, which sold for $3,600; a copy of the rare Christophorus German Edition magazine, issue No. 2, published in 1952, which achieved $3,360; and very rare, early Porsche 901 and 911 Brochures from 1964-65, which generated nearly three times its high pre-sale estimate at $2,160 (est. $6/800).
