In 1955, Ford introduced one of its most iconic postwar models, the Fairlane. The Fairlane exhibited new styling that was prominent in all of Dearborn’s 1955 models, with an emphasis on wider, longer bodies that rode lower to the street. As the top trim level available, the Fairlane featured numerous elegant design cues, such as chrome moldings on the windows and A-pillars, and unique chrome eyebrows that crested the headlamp shrouds.

Available in six different body styles, the Fairlane could be optioned with either a six-cylinder or V-8 engine, the latter of which offered an increased displacement over the outgoing model year, and a corresponding bump in horsepower. One of the most indelible body styles was undoubtedly the Sunliner convertible, which featured an automatic retractable soft top that provided an exhilarating open-air motoring experience for as many as five passengers. Notable for its handsome details and breakthrough styling, the Fairlane Sunliner remains a favorite of Ford enthusiasts to this day.

As evidenced by its chassis number, this Ford was built at the manufacturer’s Kansas City plant and equipped with the 272-cubic-inch V-8 engine. It continues to display the benefits of an older restoration that now exhibits some degree of patina. Finished in a two-tone scheme of Raven Black and Goldenrod Yellow with a matching interior livery, this Sunliner is aesthetically completed with dual sideview mirrors, rear fender skirts, and a continental spare tire kit. It rides on wide whitewall tires mounted on color-matched steel wheels with factory wheel covers. The interior features a push-button AM radio, Magic Aire climate control, and an analog clock, all of which are housed in attractive circular bezels.

Considering the car’s handsome presentation, this Fairlane is a desirable example of the iconic Dearborn model that merits the consideration of Ford enthusiasts and collectors of important convertible models.
