The Alfa Romeo Giulia was first shown to the world at the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo in June 2015, positioned as a rear-wheel-drive saloon that would return the marque to its roots. Indeed, the Giulia was the first from its manufacturer to deploy a longitudinal rear-wheel-drive platform for over two decades, and in true Alfa Romeo fashion the model oozed Italian charm when viewed against similar models from rival German marques.
It did not take long for Alfa Romeo bosses to add spice to the Giulia’s recipe, with the Quadrifoglio revealed later in the year as a direct competitor to the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C63 and BMW M3. The Quadrifoglio Racing Edition followed in 2019, while the Giulia GTA and GTAm were revealed in March 2020 in celebration of the marque’s 110th anniversary, paying homage to one of the company’s most memorable cars—the Giulia GTA of 1960s fame. Production was limited to 500 units between both new models, with the GTA intended for application on the road and the GTAm stripped back for track use. Both cars shared the same 2.9-litre twin-turbo V-6 engine for an output of 540 horsepower—more powerful than any Alfa Romeo ever made before, and 100 kilograms lighter than the Quadrifoglio.
The Giulia GTAm was offered with race-shaped front seats only—sacrificing the rear bench for weight-saving benefits, with the space used instead to install a half-roll cage—while driver and passenger are secured by racing harnesses. Handling was improved with the installation of a wider front and rear track, extended by 50 millimetres, and the wheels were given the race circuit treatment with a centre-lock nut shadowed by huge brake discs and callipers.
The example offered here was acquired new by The Sportiva Collection, with the order fulfilled by Fiat Stellantis &You Torino Murafiori in July 2022. The original purchase invoice can be viewed in the car’s history file, which also includes an Alfa Romeo Certificate of Conformity. Wearing the distinctive “Silverstone 1972” livery—an optional extra costing €15,000—framed by the race number “1” and carbon fibre-finish roof, the Alfa Romeo cuts an attractive profile. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer read just 838 kilometres.
The Giulia GTAm’s phenomenal power output should sustain the appetite of any amateur track enthusiast, with this example primed as a worthy contender for weekend fun.
